Teodoro Duclere

(Napoli, 1812 – 1869)

Biography

Born to French parents in Naples in 1816. He attended the Neapolitan art school of Pitloo distinguishing himself from the others and remaining the most faithful pupil of his master, in fact he later married his daughter.

In 1862 he became a professor of painting and taught in the field of landscaping. His name is already well known, so much that the Tsar of Russia orders him some works.

His painting is, of course, very close to that of Pitloo, although none of his works have managed to surpass the master in the chromatic vibrations and incisiveness. He died in 1867 at the age of 51. Some of Duclère's works are now kept in Sorrento in the Correale Museum.
