Pablo Palazuelo

(Madrid, 1915 – 2007)

Biography

He was born in Madrid in 1915. He studied architecture in the city of his birth, and continued his studies in Oxford. After the Spanish Civil War he decided to dedicate himself exclusively to painting and began creating his neo-Cubist works. He was a member of the Young School of Madrid between 1946 and 1947 which exhibited in the Galería Buchholz in Madrid. In 1948 he moved to Paris and turned to abstraction, and came into contact with Eduardo Chillida and Eusebio Sempere. In 1954 he ventured into the world of sculpture. He returned to Spain definitively in 1969, and exhibited his paintings for the first time in 1973. The Reina Sofía Art Centre (Madrid) hosted his first retrospective in 1995, which was followed by others in 2006 (Barcelona), and in 2007 at the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum. Music was another of his passions. He died in 2007.
